In-depth Review of the Thsinde Meter

You’ll find all of the test criteria on this meter that are found on most other standard devices. This includes voltage and amperage (down to micro-amps), resistance and continuity, plus others like millivolts and frequency. There are also several usable modes, to include RELATIVE and MAX/MIN, along with a RANGE button. This will allow you to switch between auto ranging and manual ranging.

On the current side, you can measure all ranges, from amperage to milliamps and micro-amps. The latter would be especially useful for those into HVAC engineering and electronics.

Another plus in the Thsinde Multimeter is its large display, which you might not find on some models of the top brands even. It is both clear and backlit. It also comes in a box and ships with alligator clips to boot. The auto-off, while a great feature for conserving battery life, may annoy some people as the Thsinde’s off time is quite quick – within a few minutes of non-use.

Voltage alert: Not to be confused with Fluke’s proprietary ‘Volt Alert’ function, the voltage alert on the Thsinde is actually a non-contact volt detector. Many meters have these included nowadays. They are quick and useful for picking up voltage in a cord, outlet or switch, for example, but usable test distance/range can be arbitrary and thus they are not really to be relied upon.

Build Quality

Lightweight and rugged at the same time, the Thsinde Multimeter is of fair construction. It has a hanger and a grippy holster, which has lead storage on the rear as well as a convenient tilting bail for when working on the bench. The included test probes include protective caps.

Display: The screen on this multimeter is one of its most attractive features. It is large and clear and is also backlit. Resolution is up to 6,000 counts (or 3 5/6 digits). The sample rate is around three times a second.

Facade: As with most other meters, a series of buttons are mounted under the display, with a centralized dial selector switch beneath the buttons. These include the backlight & hold button, frequency, select and the various functions. Input jack sockets then sit towards the bottom.

Functions

There are several notable functions:

Max/Min: will temporarily store high and low readings when testing. This is especially useful if you are monitoring quickly changing voltage, current or resistance values in a circuit, for example. Newer high or low readings are automatically updated.

REL: This represents Relative mode. It is used to compare the reading you have on screen with one that was previously stored, letting you compare them. Relative mode can also be used to zero out the natural resistance in the test probes in order to obtain more accurate readings.

Range: Denotes whether the meter offers up readings automatically or manually. In auto mode, you simply test the subject and await the reading. Manual ranging allows you to select an individual range, thus enabling a quicker response time.

There is also a screen hold on the Thsinde Multimeter, which is doubled up with the display’s backlight button. A ‘SELECT’ button switches between test criteria on a given dial position, such as from AC amps to DC amps.

Safety Rating

The category rating is touted to be CAT-IV at 600V. This lends the meter a theoretical over-voltage protection of 8kV (or 8,000V). However, as with many other cheaper multimeters and their ratings, it is best to err on the side of caution in regards to testing high energy circuits. Both current circuits are fused.
